The Marion Economic Development Corporation and Marion Chamber of Commerce will jointly host a city council candidates forum on Thursday, October 12th from 7-8:30 pm at the Linn Mar High School Little Theatre (3111 10th Street, Marion). The forum will follow a question and answer format giving voters an opportunity to submit questions to a moderator. Candidates for Marion City Council are as follows: Council at Large: Bruce Cummins and Randy Strnad Council Member Ward 2: Steve Jensen and Peter Johnson Council Member Ward 4: Rene Gadelha “Being the best place in Iowa to raise a family and grow a business requires strong leaders committed to planning and investing in our future,” says MEDCO President Nick Glew. “This forum is an important opportunity for candidates to share their vision and priorities with our businesses and citizens.” “Having a strong city council is a characteristic of having a healthy and progressive community,” stated Marion Chamber of Commerce President, Jill Ackerman. “The Marion Chamber of Commerce is pleased to offer a candidate forum where the business community and residents can get to know the candidates and we encourage residents to exercise their right to vote on November 7th.” Individuals attending the forum are asked to enter Linn-Mar High School through the north entrance (Pride Rock) of the school. Council members are elected for 4-year terms. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. Elections will be held November 7, 2017. The Marion City Council consists of seven members. They are responsible for all municipal policies, creation and oversite of the city’s strategic plan, approving the annual city budget, and directing the City Manager. City Council leadership is a vital component of our local economy that drives business vitality and quality of life. Everyone is reminded of the importance of these elections to the future of our community.
