Timberline Manufacturing, a Marion based contract manufacturer of electrical sub-assemblies, is evaluating the opportunity to construct a new manufacturing facility that would double the company’s production space and capacity. The proposed project includes the construction of a new 85,000 square foot facility located at 1029 Blairs Ferry Road. The property is located adjacent to the company’s current headquarters on Lyons Lane in Marion. Total capital investment is anticipated to be $12.8 million. The project as proposed is contingent upon regulatory and governmental approval of tax-based financial assistance through the State of Iowa’s High Quality Jobs program as well as a local match being considered by the City of Marion. The Marion City Council will consider support of an application to the Iowa Economic Development Authority’s High Quality Jobs program at its March 22nd meeting. The Iowa Economic Development Authority board will then consider approval of the state assistance at its meeting March 23rd. “In our 25th year we need to invest, keep ourselves relevant, and continue adding value for our customers and employee-owners,” says Timberline President Greg Ervin. “This project will allow us the efficient space needed to stay competitive and keep expanding our local job offerings.” Founded in 1993, Timberline Manufacturing is an employee-owned company that provides electrical contract manufacturing specializing in wire harness assembly, control panels and circuit board assembly. The Company has customers spanning many industries including the aerospace, mining, road construction equipment, agriculture, and packaging industries. “Timberline is yet another Marion company providing innovation to products and industries all around the world,” says MEDCO President Nick Glew. “We’re thankful for the continued investment by one of Marion’s largest employers.” Pending approval of the state application, the anticipated construction could begin this spring. The expansion is expected to create 56 new jobs over the next three years. Timberline currently has 165 full-time employees in Marion. The Marion Economic Development Corporation (MEDCO) partnered with the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance in preparing an application to the State of Iowa’s High Quality Jobs Program.
