The Heritage Area Agency on Aging, in partnership with the Marion Public Library and Marion Parks and Recreation Department, is pleased to announce the grand opening of the Encore Café in Marion. Encore Café is intended for seniors ages 60 and above. The new and innovative café will feature a choice menu with meals ranging from turkey and mashed potatoes to pasta and tacos, all catered by Marion Hy-Vee. The Encore Café is a one-stop shop for nutrition, health education and socialization time with friends for a suggested voluntary contribution of $5. Encore Café will be open for business at two convenient Marion locations: • Marion Public Library – Mondays and Fridays at noon • Lowe Park (with a full salad bar) - Wednesdays and Thursdays at noon “I am so pleased that we are expanding on the services being provided to Marion seniors,” noted Mayor Nicolas AbouAssaly. “Older adults living independently will now have regular access to nutritious meals and interaction with others four days a week.” In addition to the meals being offered, educational and health-related programming will also be expanded following mealtimes. “I commend Mayor AbouAssaly for playing an integral role in getting us to this point in Marion,” said Tim Getty, Nutrition and Healthy Living Program Coordinator for The Heritage Agency. “We are extremely excited to be part of this new, collaborative relationship in Marion.” A grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting ceremony are planned at each location. Participants will enjoy a delicious lunch at one of the Café locations, as well as local vendor booths, giveaways, prizes and an overview of the programming offered by the Encore Café.
