The YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metro Area has named Ryan Companies US, Inc., along with Rinderknecht Associates and OPN Architects as partners in the design, development and construction of the facility being planned for the new Marion YMCA. The site located on a 13-acre parcel along the Tower Terrace road extension and Winslow road in Marion will replace the current 35,000 square-foot building built in 1963 with a new state-of-the-art facility more than twice its size. “Ryan, Rinderknecht and OPN stood out from the pool of several design-build teams our building committee evaluated during a very comprehensive process,” said Bob Carlson, President and CEO of the YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metro Area. “They’ve had great success partnering on other projects in our community. We were drawn to their expertise and vision for developing spaces that connect people with each other within the building and with the surrounding environment. This is the type of design that will serve the recreational, social, health and wellness needs across generations for a wide, regional area.” Residents of Marion, Hiawatha, Robins, Cedar Rapids and surrounding communities will have access to the new multi-purpose facility which will serve as a hub for recreation, health, wellness, educational activities and community gatherings. “The YMCA’s mission of providing services that enhance communities is in direct alignment with our company values, we are proud to partner with the YMCA in this next step in the evolution of their services to the Cedar Rapids community,” said, Lydia Brown Director of Real Estate Development for Ryan’s Midwest Region. “The YMCA’s positive impact on Cedar Rapids and the surrounding community makes it one of the area’s most cherished assets.” The new Marion YMCA is a partnership between the YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Area and the City of Marion, which has committed $6.5 million toward the new facility. As a result of this partnership, Marion residents will have greater access to the Marion Y, including unlimited guest passes. In addition to nurturing the health and wellness of greater numbers of people through membership, programming and scholarship assistance, the larger space allows for the expansion of child watch, summer day camps, youth activities and sports, swimming and swim safety classes, leadership training, family programming and more. The new Marion YMCA has started a $10 million capital campaign for the facility which has an expected opening in the Fall of 2018.
