The Marion Chamber and Marion Economic Development Corporation will jointly host school board candidate forums for both the Linn-Mar Community School District and Marion Independent School District. The forums will follow a question and answer format giving voters an opportunity to submit questions to a moderator. The Linn-Mar Community School District forum will be held Tuesday, August 15 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at Lowe Park Arts & Environment Center, 4500 N 10th Street in Marion. Candidates participating in the event will be announced in August. This forum will be moderated by Bob Hoyt, retired middle school principal in the Marion Independent School District. The Marion Independent School District forum will be held Thursday, August 17 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the Thomas Park Safe Room, 343 Marion Boulevard in Marion. Candidates participating in the event will be announced in August. The forum will be moderated by Kent Stock, former middle school principal in the Linn-Mar Community School District. The public is invited and encouraged to attend each forum. School board elections will be held September 12, 2017. Education is a vital component of our local economy that drives business vitality and quality of life. Everyone is reminded of the importance of these elections to the future of our community.
