Save Money While Helping the Environment

The City of Marion will host “Save Money While Helping the Environment” at the Lowe Park Arts & Environment Center on Saturday, April 15, at 10 a.m. Experts will present tangible things residents can do in the home and yard to save money – and help the environment at the same time.

Representatives from the Engineering Department will teach homeowners how to install rain gardens or rain barrels to trap rainwater and redirect it for use in the yard and garden. Residents can apply for rebates once these projects are completed, and rebate forms will be available at the event.

Todd Steigerwaldt with the Marion Water Department will discuss tips for saving water in the home and therefore saving on water bills. Isaiah Borel with Linn County Rural Electric Company will discuss saving energy in the home, such as by installing occupancy sensors, and how to take advantage of energy credits and rebates.

Finally, the Linn County Master Gardeners will present gardening and composting tips, including ways to grow your own food even if you live in an apartment or condo.

This event is a great educational opportunity for anyone interested in upping their environmental efforts or anyone in “budget mode” looking for new ways to save money.

This event is free to attend and will last until about 11:30 a.m.
