The Marion Police Department has launched a voluntary program to allow local businesses and residents to register the location of their surveillance cameras, The program is a partnership between the police department and the community to jointly combat criminal activity in our neighborhoods. The program does not allow the Marion Police Department to access the owner’s camera, but only provides basic information about the location owner and length of time video is maintained. The information will only be available to the police department and not shared with others. Registration will allow investigators to locate a crime on a map and see locations of surveillance cameras in the area. Investigators can them contact the surveillance camera owners and aske that they check their surveillance camera video during the time frame of the crime for relevant video footage.
