Marion Public Library piloted an extended access hour in September. Library Director Hollie Trenary commented, “We constantly get feedback that we need to open earlier on weekdays. The hour of extended access is a solution that allows us to expand library service with minimal budget impact. Many patrons already have a self-service library experience as they come in to conduct simple tasks like using computers or picking up holds.” Based upon feedback from staff and patrons regarding the pilot program, the Library made a recommendation to the Board that this hour become an ongoing feature of library services. Starting Friday, November 1st, the Library will be open at 8:30 each weekday for “Early Bird Hour”. Marion Public Library is currently the only library in the state to offer this service. This self-service hour will increase access to valuable services like picking up holds, browsing, using the self-check machine, returning materials, accessing the public computers with a library card and using the library’s printer/copier/fax machine/DOT kiosk.
