Santa, and Mrs. Claus, will return to City Square Park in Marion for Christmas in the Park and Peppermint Walk on Friday, December 3 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm. This year, building on an idea first introduced last year, the Clauses will begin their journey to the park with a short Santa Wave parade through select parking lots in the community before arriving at City Square Park. They will be escorted by the Marion Fire Department and Police Department. The parade will begin at 4:00 pm and will make stops at Christ Community Church, 3000 Alburnett Road, Summit Pointe Senior Living, 3505 English Glen Avenue, and Ascension Lutheran Church, 2210 Grand Avenue, before arriving at City Square Park at 5:00 pm. Neighbors are invited to gather at the location and give a wave. This year’s event will also feature Marion traditions including the lighting of the community peace tree, carols with the Marion Community Choir, hot cocoa and popcorn. Don’t miss a special appearance from Prima the Alpaca, and The Ice Queen and Snow Princess. Most importantly, Christmas in the Park will welcome the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus. Visits with Santa will begin at 5:30 pm and will be limited to a walk through only. Children are encouraged to bring their letter to place in Santa’s Mailbox. Donations of new hats, mittens, blankets, or socks will be accepted for the Keep Your Neighbors Warm campaign. Items can be dropped off at the caboose the night of the event or delivered to the Marion Chamber of Commerce office at 1070 7th Avenue through December 10. In addition to the activities happening in the Park, Uptown Marion Main Street will host Peppermint Walk, a holiday shopping event. A nice complement to the Chocolate Walk held in the fall, the Peppermint Walk will feature a variety of Uptown Marion businesses. Due to the event activity in the Uptown Marion area, drivers are reminded to use caution and yield to pedestrians. Christmas in the Park and the Peppermint Walk is presented by the Marion Chamber of Commerce and Uptown Marion Main Street. They are a free community event thanks to our Marion Chamber Platinum Community Partners – Farmers State Bank, ImOn Communications, MercyCare Community Physicians, Summit Pointe Senior Living, and Z102.9 with support from the Marion Hotel/Motel Grant program.
