The Family Room Toddler Play Café, 143 Marion Boulevard, will officially celebrate their opening with a ribbon cutting on Friday, June 10 at Noon. This comes ahead of their Free Family Fun Day on Saturday, June 11 from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm. The Family Room Toddler Play Cafe, founded in 2022, is owned and operated by Jen English and Mackenzie Ward, of Cedar Rapids. It is a small, intimate, play space for kids under age 5, and is a second location of The Family Room. English opened The Family Room - Central City in 2018. The Central City location hosts a variety of DIY events, has an event rental space and is a sister location to the new Marion location. Both English and Ward were stay-at-home moms looking for more. “I’m an entrepreneur in my whole soul,” said English. “This was a way for me to fill my businesswoman cup without sacrificing time with my last two kids.” Ward’s children are no longer toddlers but she recalls the challenges of being a mom of kids that age and partnered with English on the Marion location. “We created a space for moms and dads to bring young kids that isn’t stressful, is safe and clean with easy parking,” said Ward. “Parents can connect while their kids play in an environment designed with their age group in mind.” Guests can Play-As-You-Go, purchase a Play Pass, or Unlimited Play. The facility can also be rented for private play dates and toddler birthday parties. In addition to the play area, The Family Room also features a retail space with drinks, snacks, and fun items for mom and child. Saturday’s free event will feature an acoustic concert from The American Rebel Tour, Dage Detter (Stromsburg, NE), as well as a variety of family friendly activities, inflatables, food vendors, photo booth, and more! Chef Green & Co will also be offering a variety of food options at an additional cost.
