Dog Star Enrichment Pet Care is now open in Marion and will celebrate with a ribbon cutting on Friday, December 15 at Noon at 3525 3rd Ave, Marion. Owner, Sarah Chavis, started as a dog walker and pet sitter and created Dog Star by drawing on her nurturing skills and passion for animals. The facility provides doggy daycare and boarding cats and dogs, mid-day dog walks, drop-in for cats, and pet waste removal from yards. “I wanted to create a business that aligns with my family values and allows me to contribute to the well-being of furry companions in the local community,” said Chavis. Enrichment pet care involves providing activities and experiences stimulating a pet's mind, body, and senses. The approach goes beyond basic needs, incorporating mental challenges, physical exercise, social interaction, and sensory stimulation to enhance a pet's overall well-being. Enrichment helps prevent boredom, reduces stress, and promotes a happier and healthier animal life. Chavis added, “By choosing an enrichment-focused doggy daycare, clients can expect a well-rounded and engaging experience for their dogs, providing peace of mind for pet owners.” In addition to pet care, Dog Star carries products made in the USA by family-owned companies; most are based in the Midwest. Products are made with simple ingredients with as few preservatives as possible; most are gluten-free. Dog Star will also host Merry Grinchmas in collaboration with Hackles & Hide K9 Academy on Saturday, December 16 from 11am – 2pm. The event will raise money for Unleashed and A Purposeful Life pet rescues. Pet photos with the Grich will be available for donation. Local vendors and crafters will also be selling unique Christmas gifts. Pet owners should bring a current vaccination record and check in with staff before entering.
