Are you passionate about service and interested in helping reduce the impacts of emergencies and disasters? The Marion Fire Department is seeking 15 volunteers to establish a new Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) for Marion. Applications are being accepted now through July 31, 2024. “CERT members will help Marion be more resilient to the impacts of disasters,” said Fire Chief Tom Fagan. “Be it a flood, tornado, ice storm or other large-scale event, CERT volunteers use education and training to help community members prepare for and respond to large incidents. With CERT, everyone brings a skillset.” Designed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), CERTs provide volunteers who are integrated into the community response structure. The City of Marion’s new CERT team will receive training from Linn County Emergency Management and the Marion Fire Department. Previous experience is not required. Qualified applicants must be at least 18 years old, possess a valid Iowa driver's license and complete the 20+ hour FEMA Community Emergency Response Team training curriculum (provided by the Marion Fire Department).
