The Marion Chamber of Commerce will host its 87th Annual Meeting on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 from 3:30 – 4:30 pm at Epic Event Center, 2987 Epic Dr. in Marion. Keynote speaker for the event will be Dr. Dau Jok, Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for West Des Moines Community Schools. Doors open at 3:00 pm. Attendees are invited to stay for networking from 4:30 – 5:30 pm. Dr. Jok will leverage storytelling to share ways leaders can model and lead transformative change that is humanizing. He will share examples from various contexts--military, education, non-profit, and family--to articulate the importance of embracing diversity, belonging, and agency to empower staff. His keynote also touches on the importance of continuous self-development. The program will also include remarks from 2023-24 Board Chair Chris Wheeler, incoming Board Chair Cydney Lovell, and Chamber President Jill Ackerman. Dr. Dau Jok is an optimistic results-oriented leader with proven experience in non-profit, military, coaching, and education. A former Division I basketball captain, Dr. Jok is a 2021-2 SEL Fellow for the CASEL Fellows Academy, non-profit director, Captain in the United States Army Reserve, and a national speaker. His quest to create inclusive communities of human excellence by humanizing knowledge, leadership, and work is informed by his indigenous Dinka (South Sudan) roots. Dr. Jok currently serves as the Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for West Des Moines Community Schools in West Des Moines, Iowa. ? ?Dr. Jok holds a BA in Philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania, a MSc in Global Leadership from Goldsmiths, University of London, and a Ph.D. in Education from Drake University. His research and praxis focus on Indigenous Knowledge Systems—Indigenous Education and Leadership—leadership, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and social and emotional learning/emotional intelligence.
