The City of Marion is seeking input from residents to help identify community strengths and challenges related to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. The deadline to participate is Dec. 15, 2024. The Community Equity and Inclusion Survey, available at www.polco.us/MarionIA, is designed to help community leaders understand the experiences of all residents. A similar survey was last conducted in 2020, and City leaders are interested in understanding any changes over time and differences in experience. “Diversity enriches our community. It’s important for us as City leaders to understand the individual experiences of our residents and identify opportunities for improvement,” said Mayor Nick AbouAssaly. “This survey is one tool that we can use to solicit input and measure our progress.” The survey asks residents about issues such as community safety, fairness, respect and how welcome they feel. “We want to hear about the experiences of our community members, particularly the historically marginalized voices,” said Deputy City Manager Kim Downs. “The information gathered will help us understand what we can do to ensure our community is inclusive and welcoming.” The survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete and will remain open through Dec. 15. Answers are completely confidential and survey results will be reported in group form only. The data will be reviewed and analyzed by City staff, community leaders and Marion’s Civil Rights Commission. At the end of the survey, participants have the option to create an account on Polco. Survey data is retained either way but registering allows for notification of future research efforts. Polco will never share personal information.
